Offering Porcelain Veneers to Patients in the Farmington and Detroit Area
What are porcelain veneers?
Porcelain veneers are tiny porcelain shells that fit over chipped, broken, and misaligned teeth, masking imperfections and giving the appearance of a balanced, white smile. Veneers are custom-crafted in a dental laboratory and then bonded to the patient’s natural teeth. Since veneers are made of dental-grade porcelain and cover the entire front of the tooth, they completely change the tooth’s appearance. Dr. Roman Shlafer, DDS, PLLC has used porcelain veneers, including LUMINEERS®, to transform many patients’ smiles in the Detroit and Farmington areas. Benefits of Porcelain Veneers
Veneers are custom-made in a dental laboratory to fit each patient’s unique smile, face shape, age, and personality. Made of layered, translucent, stain-resistant porcelain, veneers are indistinguishable from natural teeth once installed. They provide an alternative to traditional braces for patients with misaligned teeth, and they cover chipped and broken teeth as securely as crowns and more securely than dental bonding. Securely bonded to the natural teeth, veneers feel completely natural and can last for years.
The Placement Procedure
The placement procedure for porcelain veneers is performed at our office serving the Detroit and Farmington areas. To place the porcelain veneers, Dr. Shlafer first applies a local anesthetic. He then gently shaves away a portion of the tooth to accommodate the veneer. He then takes photos and impressions of the teeth and bite, which he sends to the dental laboratory that will craft the veneers. Next, he places temporary veneers on the teeth, which the patient wears while the veneers are being crafted. When the porcelain veneers are ready, the patient returns to our office in Farmington. In this visit, Dr. Shlafer applies a local anesthesia and removes the temporary veneers. He then bonds the veneers to the teeth, making sure that they fit and blend flawlessly with the tooth. Once in place, veneers look and feel indistinguishable from natural teeth and can last for years. Before receiving porcelain veneers, many patients choose to undergo professional teeth whitening for a complete smile makeover.
