Single-Visit Inlays and Onlays
Inlays and onlays are a durable, long-lasting alternative to traditional fillings for teeth with cavities but otherwise healthy enamel. Unlike traditional fillings, inlays and onlays are crafted of durable porcelain that fit snugly into the cavity. Inlays and onlays completely fill the cavity while strengthening the tooth, and onlays also cover and give new shape to the top of the tooth. At Roman Shlafer, DDS, we use CEREC® technology to craft inlays and onlays while you wait, so you don’t have to experience the long delay while your restoration is crafted in a dental laboratory. You can have your inlay or onlay placed in about an hour!
Placement of Inlays and Onlays
To place inlays and onlays, Dr. Shlafer first applies local anesthesia. Then he carefully removes dental decay. He then fabricates the inlay or onlay to fit the cavity perfectly. Finally, he bonds the inlay or onlay into the cavity. Once in place, inlays and onlays provide lasting support for the tooth.
CEREC® Technology
The CEREC® system (“Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics”) makes creating single-tooth restorations quick and easy. CEREC® technology allows our dentist to provide patients in Detroit and Farmington, Michigan with full and partial ceramic crowns and inlays and onlays in one office visit. Patients receiving CEREC® restorations do not have to make multiple trips to the dentist or wait weeks for laboratory-crafted restorations. Instead, they can relax and watch television while Dr. Shlafer custom-crafts their tooth restoration. Thanks to CEREC® technology, you can leave our office with a fully restored tooth. Dr. Roman Shlafer, DDS, PLLC has training and experience using CEREC® technology to restore both function and beauty to patients smiles.
