Enhance Your Smile With Dr. Shlafer
Veneers are thin shells that can be placed over the surface of your teeth to cover any cosmetic issues. They’re made from durable, natural-looking porcelain to ensure a stunning appearance and long-lasting results.
Typically, Dr. Shlafer recommends veneers for treating the following:
- Chipped or cracked teeth
- Stained or discolored teeth
- Crooked or misshapen teeth
- Gaps between teeth
The Veneers Process
Getting veneers is a fast and easy process that can typically be completed in two appointments. During the first visit, Dr. Shlafer will take a precise impression of your teeth so the veneers can be customized to blend in seamlessly with your smile. He’ll also lightly buff and re-shape the surface of your teeth to ensure the veneers fit perfectly.
In most cases, your veneers will be ready in about two weeks. At this point, you can return to our office so Dr. Shlafer can use a strong dental resin to bond them to your teeth. Finally, he’ll complete the process by shining a special light on your teeth to harden the resin and solidify the bond with your veneers.
Lumineers
Lumineers are a smaller type of veneer that requires less preparation to receive. They’re ultra-thin and translucent, so Dr. Shlafer doesn’t need to remove any of your natural tooth enamel to make them fit. Best of all, they can usually be placed in just one appointment.
Since they’re so thin, Lumineers aren’t recommended for patients who have dark stains or severe discoloration on their teeth. They also may be damaged if you have a tendency to grind or clench your teeth. When you visit our practice, Dr. Shlafer will listen to your smile goals and determine the best treatment plan for you.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the veneers procedure painful?
Before your veneers procedure, Dr. Shlafer will apply a local anesthetic to numb your teeth and gums. You may experience some mild discomfort right after treatment, but this should fade within a few hours.
How long do veneers last?
Veneers typically last seven to fifteen years with proper care.
Does dental insurance cover veneers?
Veneers are a cosmetic treatment, so most insurance providers won’t cover them. However, there are some exceptions depending on your provider. Our team will be happy to help make sure you maximize your insurance benefits.
What if my veneer falls off or is damaged?
If your veneer falls out or gets damaged in any way, call Dr. Shlafer and visit our office as soon as you can. Try to keep it clean and stored in a safe place until we can assist you. Don’t attempt to fix the veneer yourself, as this can result in further damage.
How do I take care of my veneers?
Veneers can be cared for just like natural teeth, with daily brushing and flossing. It’s also a good idea to avoid habits such as chewing ice cubes or biting your fingernails if you want your new smile to last.
Do veneers work for crooked teeth?
Yes — in many cases, Dr. Shlafer can use veneers to help your teeth appear straighter.
