Pain-Free Treatment for Gum Disease
Periodontal disease, commonly referred to as gum disease, is a harmful oral infection that results from a buildup of plaque in your teeth and gums. Without treatment, gum disease can lead to a variety of consequences ranging from tooth loss to hear disease.
Traditionally, periodontal disease is eliminated with gum surgery. However, some patients avoid this method because it can be painful and inconvenient. Worst of all, it requires damaging your healthy tissue in order to remove the infection.
As a minimally invasive alternative, we’re proud to offer LANAP laser therapy at our practice. Explore our guide to learn about the many benefits of this advanced treatment option.
What is LANAP?
LANAP treatment involves using a specializaed dental laser to target infected gum tissue and stimulate regeneration. The procedure is performed using PerioLase® MVP-7™ laser, the only FDA_approved laser for gum disease treatment.
How Does LANAP Treatment Work?
Dr. Shlafer will begin your treatment by numbing the infected area with a local anesthetic to ensure you don’t feel any pain. After he’s measured the depth of the pockets in your gums, he’ll use the PerioLase MVP-7 to remove bacteria and diseased tissue from your gums
Once this is complete, Dr. Shlafer will use the laser again to form a blood clot, reattaching your gums to your teeth for minimal bleeding and a faster healing process. This will also stimulate the growth of healthy tissue to restore your gums.

- No scapels or stitching
- Minimal pain/discomfort
